EVENT RECAP: Women Who ROKK the Media

On June 8, 2023, ROKK Solutions was thrilled to host the inaugural “Women Who ROKK in the Media: Lunch & Learn” featuring two esteemed journalists–Amalie Nash and Marianna Sotomayor. Our own Kristen Hawn, Partner and co-founder of Women Who ROKK, welcomed the team and opened the discussion. Introductions were followed by a Q&A session led by Varuna Bhatia, Vice President and former journalist at Fox News, and Tanika Pradhan, Account Director.

We first heard from Amalie Nash, USA Today Network veteran who shared her wealth of knowledge garnered from a long career in local news. She discussed the critical importance of local news outlets and their struggles to stay in business, as the industry shifts the revenue model to a blend of subscription and advertising. Next, Marianna Sotomayor, Congressional reporter for the Washington Post, provided insights into her day-to-day practices reporting on Democratic and Republican leadership on Capitol Hill.

Overall, our team learned more about what the day-to-day looks like for a journalist, and gathered pro tips on the best way (and when) to pitch to get stories placed.
