EVENT RECAP: Women Who ROKK Capitol Hill
On July 19, 2023, ROKK Solutions hosted “Women Who ROKK Capitol Hill: A Bipartisan Discussion on the Future of Women Leaders.” The event featured Representative Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) and Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR) and the discussion was moderated by Marianna Sotomayor, Congressional reporter for the Washington Post.
Kristen Hawn, partner and co-founder of Women Who ROKK, welcomed our guests and kicked off the conversation. She noted that not only are Chavez-DeRemer and Pettersen freshman members of Congress, but also mothers and the first in their families to graduate high school and college.
As the discussion continued, Sotomayor asked what advice they would give to women who want to work with their colleagues across the aisle. Their response was to lean into your shared experiences, like being a mother, to find common ground on issues such as opioids and public safety or affordable housing and childcare. Finding those bridges of commonality is the key to bipartisan cooperation. See a clip of the discussion.
At the conclusion of the panel discussion, guests enjoyed a networking reception with refreshments provided by Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar.
