Mark Paustenbach is well-respected strategic communications executive with experience navigating high-profile corporate and political environments. Mark was most recently Deputy Communications Director and National Press Secretary at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) during the 2016 primary and general election campaigns, where he helped lead communications and rapid response teams and served as the committee’s on-the-record spokesperson.
Mark was previously manager of external communications at Promontory Financial Group, where he handled global media relations and thought leadership initiatives for a financial regulatory consultancy with 19 offices in North America, Europe, Asia. He was also a founding senior staff member of the Economic Innovation Group (EIG), a non-profit advocacy organization focused on economic development in underserved communities backed by prominent tech executives and entrepreneurs. A veteran of the Obama Administration, Mark served as spokesperson for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), the U.S. government’s successful response to the financial crisis. Politico described Mark as “indispensable” for his work at the U.S. Treasury Department. He also served as National Press Secretary for then-Senator Joe Biden’s 2008 presidential campaign. Mark began his career as Deputy Press Secretary at the DNC during the 2006 midterm election cycle, and Research Associate for the DNC/John Kerry for President campaign in 2003 and 2004.
