SAMI EWING

Communications Assistant

With her experience as a student journalist and hunger to learn, Sami brings to ROKK a deep excitement to become as involved and hands-on as possible. She wants to learn from her coworkers at ROKK and grow as a professional in her writing.

Sami earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in Journalism with the Summa Cum Laude distinction. She is currently a graduate student at The Citadel Military College of South Carolina pursuing a Master of Arts in International Politics and Military Affairs.

As a Communications Assistant, Sami works with clients to grow their social media presence, stays attuned to the latest news from the 24/7 media cycle and publishes works from newsletters to press releases.

WHY SAMI BELONGS IN THE ROOM

01

She personifies grit.

Sami knows what it means to put in hard work! Obsessed with Angela Duckworth’s equation for grit, she knows that the time and effort put into mastering the skills she’s passionate about will shape her into the woman she aspires to be: a gritty writer, DC professional and ROKK enthusiast.

02

She loves to ask questions and listen to others.

Sami believes that everyone is full of wonderful stories and good ideas! In her previous job, she interviewed: reverends, doctors, political candidates, police officers, students, reporters and more. Each person inspired her to cover new story ideas that illustrated new facets of communities in North Florida.

03

She knows her way around a newsroom.

Prior to joining ROKK, she worked at WUFT news (University of Florida’s student-run newsroom) as a reporter and air producer. She loved reporting on food and medical deserts in rural Florida and hosting the afternoon edition of WUFT NPR’s show, All Things Considered.

DOGS OR CATS:

Dogs are her favorite, but she loves cats too! Just not hers… her cat, Baby Grey, is seven pounds of evil and could be a weapon in biological warfare since she’s infected her with Cat-Scratch Fever. Twice.

FUN FACT

While Sami worked as a waitress and hostess at a mom-and-pop restaurant, she had an idea for a better water pitcher, and at 20, she had it patented with the USPTO!
